HARAAM PRODUCTS

The Arabic word Haraam means unlawful. The following items have been categorically spelled out as being Haraam by jurists in light of the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah:

  4. Animal glycerol/glycerine

  5. Animal harmones

  6. Animal lipase

  7. Animal monoglycerides

  8. Animal phospholipid

  9. Animal shortening

  10. Bacon

  11. Blood

  12. Carnivorous animals

  13. Collegen

  14. Dead animals

  15. Dough Conditioners

  16. Enzymes (Microbial enzymes are permitted)

  17. Ethanol

  18. Ethyl Alcohol, Wine and Spirits

  19. Emulsifier

  20. Fatty Acid

  21. Gelatin

  22. Gin

  23. Halaal animals that are not slaughtered according to the Islamic law

  24. Ham

  25. Hog

  26. Hydrolyzed Animal protein

  27. Lard

  28. Pepsin

  29. Pig and Pig products such as Pork, Bacon, Ham

  30. Porker

  31. Rennet (Plant, Microbial and Synthetic Rennet is permitted)

  32. Rum

  33. Sausage

  34. Sorbicon

  35. Stearic acid

  36. Tallow

  37. Vanilla Extract/Flavour

  38. Whey (Whey produced from Plant, Microbial and Synthetic Rennet is permitted)

Processed foods contain food additives, regulated by the alphabet ‘E’, such as emulsifiers, raising agents, preservatives, coloring and gelling agents. The following ‘E’ number additives MUST be avoided because they are Haraam:
